On Saturday evening (French time) September 27, 2025, fans went crazy on Instagram.
The photos of Maia and Tom started to be deleted, and Maia unfollowed Tom first, then Tom unfollowed her, but she remained subscribed via her personal account, and so did Tom. But the next day, she unfollowed him, and Tom followed suit.
On Maia's personal account, there are still photos of Tom, but some photos have been deleted, such as the one above, which Tom had posted on his account with the caption “mi jermu,” which means “my wife” in Spanish. The only ones that remain and may not be deleted are the ones from the Met Gala (Maia's account) and the 2025 Tony Awards (Maia and Tom's accounts), as these are now “souvenir” photos of the events and not of themselves.

As of Monday, Tom and Maia are officially no longer together. They no longer follow each other on any account, and Tom may even have blocked Maia, as her comments no longer appear on Tom's account.
We start with Tom, who initially always had a photo of Maia in his phone case, now there're no longer any. As for Maia, she reactivated the identifications that had been deactivated during the filming of The Last Sunrise.
Now, why?
From now on, what I'm going to say is just speculation, so it doesn't mean it's true, but it's possible.
So it could be that this breakup is due to distance and jealousy (yeah, yeah...).
Firstly, distance. Tom and Maia were both separated due to filming commitments. For Tom, it was The Mosquito Bowl, a film that will be released on Netflix in 2026, and for Maia, it was The Last Sunrise. Before they broke up, Tom posted a photo of Maia in his story with the caption “I miss you.” After that, there was nothing between them until September 27, except for comments under posts.
Secondly, jealousy. During the filming of The Last Sunrise, Fernando Lindez, the actor who plays Julián, was very close to Maia at certain moments. You might think it was just for the role, but there was something else going on. Someone from Spain filmed Maia and Fernando from a distance on TikTok while they were filming a scene, but they didn't seem to be filming a scene, so we could see Maia running her hands over Fernando's neck.
Of course, what I'm saying about them may be nonsense, but I think it has something to do with Tom and Maia's relationship. We'll have to wait and see how the relationship between Maia Reficco and Fernando Lindez develops over time.

Tom and Maia met at the opening ceremony of the Broadway play Maybe Happy Ending. hey were guests and fell in love there. If you remember, in the first post, Tom posted a video of this event where he is seen talking to Maia as if they had been talking for hours.
Then came the Met Gala, and Maia agreed for the first time to make their relationship official on social media, even though she had always wanted to keep this kind of thing private. Fans are now very sad to hear about this breakup. Everything was going very well before filming, but something happened during this time apart that we will never know.
